Forced to Fly

June 11, 2012 § Leave a Comment

At first the gentle nudge

Baby looks out from its nest

Then the forceful shove

Too young to know – Mother knows best

The life known suddenly changed

     Forced to leave the tree

Yet joy and life somehow saved

Becoming the eagle it was meant to be

We cannot prevent the fall

What holds us can not be persuaded

The choice we have to make in the air

Is to soar    -   or to be scared

It isn’t easy to release

What we experienced or expected

The only way to enjoy the flight

Let the weight go   -   and be light

If we open our arms and our heart

Our wings will have expanded

In that moment it is our faith

the wind that glides us   -    into grace

It is then that we begin to fly

To the dreams we have placed up so high

In the clouds we will see

It was falling that helped us become   -    Who we were meant to be
